I thought to try and give the sponsorship one last push, I’d do a ten-day countdown to London.

It feels incomprehensible that I’ll be running it in ten days. When I signed up, it felt like something to say you’d do one day in the pub, like visiting Machu Picchu, or moving to the coast. It felt like a future thing, a great discussion point, but not actually something that is going to happen.

It is going to happen. In ten days. Fuck.

There’s a lot going to happen before that. I understand there’s a radio show to do, along with Jasper, who is also running for the Foundation. On Thursday, Jasper and I shall head down to London to get our bibs and check out routes from hotels (although I’m staying with my cousin Sarah). There are a few training runs to do – one today (Thursday 17th), which I shall do around Wragby in the early evening when it cools down, and my last ‘long’ run to do, a ten-mile stretch on Saturday at some point.

Today, I just looked over the course. I knew it took in the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, but I didn’t realise that by the time we round the boat, I’ll already be 10km in! There are two trips past the Tower of London, one at 12 miles and another at 22. I’ve always liked the Tower of London, went there for my 40th birthday weekend, but I doubt I feel that way on mile 22!

I had this idea of seeing all the big London landmarks, but Big Ben, House of Parliament and (of course) Buckingham Palace are all around the final mile or three. There’s a lot in the middle, Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs, which I think will be the biggest challenge.

I’m sure it will be fine, of course.

Over the next ten days I’ll be counting down, just outlining my runs as I have been doing, my nutrition, which Ill actually pay attention to now, and any last minute fears or thoughts. Hopefully, you’ll find the journal entertaining.

Also, I’ve £5000 now, with my brother pledging to add £11 to his donation to get me there. That’s a huge total, and there’s still signed Lincoln City shirts to auction, the first of which is here

The countdown is on!
