About Me

I’m Gary Hutchinson, a digital content creator and Lincoln City supporter.
I spent 20 years working in the Builder’s Merchant industry before a drastic career change in April 2017. I turned my back on the industry I had dedicated two decades to and started writing for a living.
I’ve always enjoyed writing; English was the only subject I enjoyed at school, thanks to a teacher called David Slater. He energised me and made me relish reading and writing. I wanted to be a journalist from an early age, but the lack of opportunity in the mid-nineties took me down a different path.
I kept writing every so often for newspapers and later websites, briefly running a Lincoln City site called Lincoln City Mad. I blogged a little for Sky Sports, and twice brought back the Lincoln City fanzine, Deranged Ferret, editing eight editions.
In 2017, disillusioned with my full time job, I left to concentrate on my writing. With the support of my now-wife Fe, I started a magazine called A City United, focused on football across Lincolnshire. I ran my website, The Stacey West, and began working as a freelancer for The Lincolnite.
Shortly after that, Football League World approached me with an offer to write full-time, and while I was working there, I started my own site, The Real EFL. After publishing a couple of books, my current employer approached me about writing some freelance content for them. It started at 20 articles per month but is now a full-time job.
In July 2023, I started my own media company, Top of the League Media Ltd, to handle the different websites I oversee.

Away from the keyboard, I am still a big Lincoln City fan, but I also love going to gigs and playing pool (badly) with my mates. I’m married, living in the Lincolnshire Wolds with my wife, Fe, and our shih-tzu Charlie. After turning 40 a year or five years, I became more interested in fitness, and now I also enjoy going running around Withcall. I even maintain the village website, with at least 30 hits a year!
Just read your article regarding Oldham Athletics best 10 players.
Some decent stuff in there, but also a couple of howlers.
You have Roger Palmer appearing twice on your list. Secondly, Alan Groves never linked up with Frank Bunn. They never played together, they played for Oldham in different era’s.
